Frequently Asked Question

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication when logging in to Microsoft 365
Last Updated 8 months ago

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is essential to reinforce the security of our online accounts, protecting them against unauthorized access.

By requiring two forms of identification:

  1. something you know (your password)

  2. something you have (a code generated by an app), 2FA adds an additional layer of security, making it much more difficult for cybercriminals to compromise your personal and professional data.

To activate/enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Microsoft 365, it is necessary to configure it to generate a token, thus allowing secure access to the Office account.

You must access https://portal.office.com/

Click "sign in" and enter your email address and password.

On the first web login, you will see the following screen:

You will need to follow the steps shown on screen to access your account.

You can use the "Google Authenticator" or "Microsoft Authenticator" application.

For an individual account, we recommend using the Microsoft application, for shared accounts, using Google Authenticator is more convenient (to be able to use the latter, you must click on the option we mark with the red arrow).

Upon clicking next or the option "I want to use another application" in the case of Google Authenticator, the following screen will appear:

We need to start the setup wizard by clicking "Next" so that the QR code to scan appears.

In this step, we need to download on your mobile phone
the Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator application and use
the option to scan a QR code from among the options the application gives us.

Once this step is completed, click
next and it will ask us for the confirmation code in one of the two
applications you are using.

Once the code is confirmed, two-factor authentication is activated on your account.

You can also see the process in a more visual way from this Microsoft video:
